Position Overview
The Raw Material Buyer will be responsible for sourcing post-consumer plastic feedstock to meet EFS’s processing needs, ensuring quality, consistency, and competitive pricing. The role requires a strong understanding of the recycling industry, excellent negotiation skills, and the ability to foster relationships with suppliers, municipalities, and other stakeholders. The buyer will work closely with the VP of Business Development to align procurement strategies with EFS’s operational and sustainability goals.

The buyer will work closely with the VP of Business Development to align procurement strategies with EFS’s operational and sustainability goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Feedstock Sourcing
- Identify and secure reliable sources of post-consumer plastics (#1-7 rigid plastics, #PP, HDPE).
- Build and maintain relationships with municipalities, waste management companies, and suppliers to ensure consistent material flow.
- Negotiate supply contracts to achieve cost efficiency while meeting quality standards.
- Supplier Relationship Management
- Establish long-term partnerships with key suppliers to secure sustainable material streams.
- Provide suppliers with regular feedback on material quality and contamination levels based on EFS’s rigorous tracking systems.
- Quality and Compliance
- Collaborate with operations to ensure incoming materials meet EFS’s processing specifications.
- Verify that all feedstock qualifies as post-consumer material, adhering to certification standards.
- Work with suppliers to address quality issues and implement improvement measures.
- Market Analysis and Strategy
- Monitor market trends, pricing, and regulatory changes impacting feedstock availability and costs.
- Identify new opportunities for feedstock procurement that align with EFS’s core business and sustainability goals.
- Collaborate with the EFS Management to develop and execute strategic procurement plans.
- Reporting and Collaboration
- Provide regular updates to EFS Management nt on sourcing activities, market conditions, and supplier performance.
- Work closely with the operations, product development, and sales teams to align procurement efforts with company objectives.
- Experience: Minimum 3-5 years in raw material procurement, recycling, or waste management industries.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of post-consumer plastics, recycling processes, and EPR frameworks in Canada.
- Skills:
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and relationship management skills.
- Strong analytical and organizational abilities.
- Proficiency in using data to assess market conditions and supplier performance.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Environmental Science, or related fields preferred.
- Other:
- Ability to travel to supplier sites and EFS facilities as needed (est. 30% travel).
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently in a remote or on-site setting.
