Senior Project Manager

ContractOn behalf of our client, Affinity is seeking an experienced Senior IT Project Manager to lead and manage IT system development and support projects from initiation to delivery. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in project management methodologies, Agile delivery, and a proven ability to deliver high-quality solutions that align with organizational objectives.
Responsibilities:
- Lead project initiation activities, including scope definition, team setup, and project kick-off.
- Perform detailed planning activities for each project, including development activities, schedules, and resource allocation.
- Manage project delivery and oversee activities such as resource allocation, risk management, issue resolution, and change management.
- Monitor and control project progress through status reports, change requests, and risk and issue management.
- Collaborate with clients to understand business challenges and design effective solutions addressing user, process, technology, and data needs.
- Define and establish scope and requirements, develop executable plans, and identify resource needs, timelines, and costs.
- Utilize data and analytics knowledge to deliver solutions that meet client objectives.
- Conduct discovery sessions, document requirements and user stories, and collaborate with technical teams to organize work into Agile sprints.
- Create development-ready user stories with clear definitions of success, coordinating across workstreams for complex projects.
- Manage scope, requirements, resources, timelines, costs, risks, and communications to ensure on-time, on-budget, and high-quality project delivery.
- Organize and lead status meetings, steering committee meetings, and Agile/project ceremonies with key stakeholders.
- Identify non-technical risks and resistance points, and develop mitigation plans to address concerns.
- Provide regular status updates and progress reports to management.
- Perform additional duties and tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
- University degree in Business Administration or Information Technology, or an equivalent combination of a related college diploma and relevant experience.
- 10 years of experience in IM/IT roles, including system development and support.
- 5 years of experience in project management, including managing multiple related projects and coordinating cross-functional teams.
- 2 years of experience delivering full project lifecycle activities using Agile methodologies.
- Proven experience leading cross-functional business and technical teams, including a mix of in-house and external resources.
- Experience working in or for the public sector in Canada.
- Demonstrated expertise in change management, including developing plans for managing organizational change.
- Strong skills in cost estimation, resource planning, and project time management.
- Knowledge of IT system concepts and their impact on business processes.
- Current certification in Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM), PMI Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP), or PRINCE2.
- Proven experience in Agile lifecycle delivery, including concept, inception, iteration, and release phases.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to drive project success through effective stakeholder engagement.
