About The Role

Confluent Cloud delivers a complete end to end streaming experience via a Software as a Service (SaaS) model. Confluent is also a major contributor to the Apache Kafka project. We are hiring a Product Manager to work on evolving the Kafka protocol to simplify the developer experience and strengthen Confluent’s foundational streaming offering.

The role is directly responsible for working with customers and communities to craft a roadmap that meets the needs of both Confluent Cloud and the entire Kafka community. To deliver a simple, understandable, and scalable product experience requires abstracting the complex interactions of underlying infrastructure, networking, storage, and compute powering a stateful distributed system.

The Product Manager for Core Kafka will work at the lowest levels of the technology stack and is responsible for taking these core features to market, as well as deciding what features will remain proprietary and what will be donated to open-source which requires cross functional alignment and vision.

What You Will Do

• Driving Confluent’s Core Kafka Roadmap with focus on user experience, platform stability, and scalability.
• Developing product and protocol specifications for Core Kafka features.
• Working with the broader open-source community on features and requirements.
• Educating Confluent’s field and the broader community about new core features.
• Coordinating multiple teams who are both providers and consumers of our internal services.

• 5+ years of software product management experience
• Distributed systems experience
• Open-source experience
• API and protocol design experience
• Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication
