POSITION OVERVIEW



The Chief Revenue Officer (CRO) at Sundance Institute is responsible for leading the development and execution of comprehensive revenue-generating strategies to support our mission and drive sustainable growth. Responsible for identifying, exploring, and securing new revenue models for the Institute, this role will lead the Institute’s Marketing and Advancement teams. The CRO directly oversees the Directors of Partnerships, Marketing, and Development, and indirectly supervises their combined 35 reports, seasonal contractors and vendors.



Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the CRO will play a critical role in diversifying revenue streams, maximizing funding opportunities, and enhancing overall financial performance to drive Sundance Institute’s commitment to championing independent artists and furthering the reach of our mission.



This full-time position may work remotely from within a state of operation. Extended hours, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends and travel to festivals, labs, events, and other Institute offices will be required on occasion.

Revenue Strategy Development



  • Develop and implement innovative revenue-generating strategies aligned with organizational goals and industry best practices to drive sustainable growth.


  • Conduct thorough market research and analysis to identify emerging trends, opportunities, and potential threats.


  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align revenue strategies with programmatic initiatives and organizational priorities.



Partnerships, Fundraising and Development



  • Provide strategic direction and guidance to the Director of Partnerships and Director of Development, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and priorities.


  • Oversee the planning, execution, and evaluation of comprehensive fundraising campaigns, events, and initiatives led by the Director of Development, focusing on major gifts, individual donors, and annual giving programs.


  • Oversee the Director of Partnerships to develop and implement strategies and events for cultivating and stewarding corporate partnerships, sponsorships, and strategic alliances.


  • Support the Directors in identifying and cultivating relationships with high-net-worth individuals, foundations, and other key stakeholders to secure major gifts and grants.


  • Work closely with the Directors to establish and monitor fundraising targets, metrics, and benchmarks, ensuring accountability and alignment with revenue goals.


  • Serve as a liaison between the Development and Partnership teams and the Executive Leadership team, providing regular updates, insights, and recommendations to inform strategic decision-making.


  • To maximize revenue generation opportunities and impact, foster collaboration and synergy between the Fundraising and Development teams and other departments, including Marketing, Programming, and Finance.



Marketing Strategy and Brand Management



  • Provide strategic direction and guidance to the Director of Marketing, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and priorities.


  • Oversee the Director of Marketing to develop and execute comprehensive marketing strategies to enhance brand visibility, drive audience engagement, and promote organizational initiatives.


  • Support the Director with the development of integrated marketing campaigns across traditional and digital channels, including email, social media, website, and print materials.


  • Collaborate with the Marketing team to identify target audiences, segment markets, and tailor messaging to reach and resonate with diverse stakeholders effectively.


  • Work closely with Director to monitor and analyze marketing performance metrics, including campaign return on investment (ROI), website traffic, and social media engagement, to optimize marketing efforts and maximize impact.


  • Serve as a liaison between the Marketing team and the Executive Leadership team, providing regular updates, insights, and recommendations to inform strategic decision-making.



Data Analytics and Performance Measurement



  • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to track revenue performance, monitor progress against targets, and evaluate the effectiveness of revenue-generating initiatives.


  • Utilize data analytics and business intelligence tools to gain insights into donor behavior, market trends, and revenue drivers, enabling data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement.



Team Leadership and Development



  • Build and lead a high-performing, revenue-generating team, providing mentorship, coaching, and professional-development opportunities to enhance skills, capabilities, and foster growth and success.


  • Provide leadership and guidance to foster a collaborative and inclusive work culture that promotes teamwork, creativity, continuous improvement, and innovation across the revenue generation functions.




You have the following direct or transferable skill sets:



  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience in revenue generation, fundraising, marketing, or business development, preferably within the nonprofit sector or arts industry.


  • Demonstrated experience growing revenue through new-product development, marketing, branding, and partnerships.


  • Demonstrated track record of success in developing and implementing revenue generation strategies, securing major gifts, and exceeding fundraising targets.


  • Strong financial acumen with experience in budgeting, financial forecasting, and revenue analysis.


  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to effectively engage and inspire diverse stakeholders.


  • Proven experience in marketing strategy development, brand management, and integrated marketing campaigns.


  • Strategic thinker with the ability to analyze complex problems, develop actionable insights, and drive results-oriented solutions.


  • Proficiency in data analytics tools, customer relationship management (CRM) systems, and Google Suite.


  • Passion for the arts and a commitment to advancing cultural equity and inclusivity.


  • Legal authorization to work in the United States.

  • Drive Sustainable Growth: Achieve a revenue growth rate (RGR) of at least 10% annually, reflecting your ability to develop and execute revenue generation strategies that foster sustainable growth for the Sundance Institute.


  • Maximize Fundraising Efficiency: Maintain a fundraising efficiency ratio below 25%, demonstrating your skill in optimizing fundraising efforts to maximize the impact of every dollar invested in fundraising activities.


  • Optimize Marketing Impact: Achieve a marketing ROI of at least 3x, showcasing your capacity to develop and execute marketing strategies that drive significant returns on investment and enhance the visibility and engagement of the Sundance Institute brand.


  • Foster Donor Loyalty and Engagement: Maintain a donor retention rate of over 70%, indicating your success in cultivating strong relationships with donors and fostering their continued support and engagement with the Sundance Institute's mission and programs.

  • Final rate of pay is determined based on the applicant's geographic location, relevant experience and skills, and internal equity among similar positions within our organization.
