Essential Functions:
Leads EMC’s Loss Control strategy and directs efforts to execute the company’s loss control philosophies and objectives. Leads and provides oversight for the development, maintenance, and implementation of the company’s overall loss control guidelines, processes, priorities, procedures, and best practices to ensure the profitable growth of the company
Provides leadership, management, and oversight of the Loss Control team while collaborating with other company departments to achieve Loss Control goals and objectives
Provides expertise, support and deployment of field Loss Control team members to ensure consistent and efficient use of EMC’s Loss Control resources
Collaborates with branch leadership, Regional Vice Presidents, and Corporate Underwriting leadership as appropriate on areas to improve and/or add services through Loss Control
Provides expert advice, guidance, and coaching to raise standards and expertise across the company’s Loss Control departments
Provides strategic leadership to successfully navigate loss control challenges and opportunities
Builds technical strength throughout the loss control organization to assess risk, enhance agent and policyholder service, and support profitable growth initiatives
Creates and ensures the long-term development and delivery of the company’s loss control policyholder value-added services, underwriting support and innovation
Leads the collaboration with the branch offices, Corporate Underwriting, MarCom and other departments to identify opportunities to create and deploy innovative loss control services and solutions to help improve profit and growth and ensure the company’s competitive position in the marketplace
Utilizes strong planning and relationship management skills to develop a strategic view and make data driven informed decisions regarding all aspects of the company’s loss control business
Develops and implements a talent strategy across the portfolio of functions to achieve goals. Effectively develops and grows internal talent – a priority in EMC’s culture
Advances EMC’s diversity, equity and inclusion goals. Fosters an innovative culture, including supporting new ideas and providing guidance on potential changes. Functions as trusted partner to entire C-level leadership team
Develops Loss Control’s operating budget necessary to successfully complete department operating plans consistent with a One EMC approach to Loss Control
Maintains excellent relationships with vendors, service providers, member associations and other outside organizations
Ensures EMC is obtaining and leveraging maximum benefits for underwriting, loss control, policyholders and agents
Education and Experience:
The education and experience below are required for the job unless labelled as preferred:
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in engineering, safety science, risk management or related field
Master’s degree in engineering, safety, risk management, business or related field preferred
Ten years of loss control leadership experience or related experience
Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred
Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) or insurance designations preferred
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Advanced knowledge of loss control, safety, and risk management
Excellent leadership qualities with ability to motivate staff
Ability to build strong partnerships with business units to ensure underwriting profitability and overall business performance
Superior verbal and written communication skills
Ability to provide vision and to think creatively and innovatively to implement strategies to improve results and operational efficiencies
Excellent presentation abilities and human relations skills
Thorough knowledge and understanding of commercial property and casualty insurance
Ability to promote EMC values – relationships, integrity, trust, inclusion, and resilience – in leading the department and with partner organizations
Strong analytical, critical thinking, and project management skills, with a drive-for-results mentality and ability to make sound decisions
Occasional travel; a valid driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle report per company standards will be required if driving
