The Level 1 Instructional Designer will be responsible for collaborating with faculty and subject matter experts (SMEs) to design and develop effective and engaging instructional materials for higher education courses. This includes designing and developing online courses that promote active learning and student engagement.



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Collaborates with course developers (CDs) and subject matter experts (SMEs) to identify learning objectives, instructional strategies, and assessment methods and design effective instructional materials and learning solutions

  • Designs and develops online courses and learning resources, including assessments, multimedia elements, and interactive activities

  • Develops courses to comply with LUO template and design standards to ensure consistency and quality across all courses and resources

  • Works effectively with other CAD team members such as Instructional Technologists, the Textbook manager, video production team members, and editing staff

  • Works effectively with other departments on campus such as Information Technology, and Academic Leadership

  • Utilizes communication tools and technologies to facilitate collaboration within the online environment
  • Applies best practices in instructional design, including the use of technology, multimedia, and other innovative approaches to enhance learning outcomes


QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS


Education and Experience



  • Prefer Bachelor's degree in instructional design, educational technology, or a related field

  • Prefer 1 year of experience in instructional design

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Knowledge of instructional design principles, methodologies, and practices, including adult learning theory, instructional technologies, and learning management systems

  • Some experience with multimedia tools used to create digital content


Desired Training:



  • Strong understanding of Office Suite

  • Experience with Learning Management Systems, and other educational technologies

  • Occasionally required to travel to local and campus locations.

  • Frequently required to sit for extended periods to perform deskwork or type on a keyboard.

  • Regularly required to hear and speak in order to effectively communicate orally.

  • Occasionally required to stand, walk, and climb stairs to move about the building.

The working environment in which one will typically perform the essential functions of this position is a climate-controlled office setting. It is well lit and the noise level is moderate.
