Outreach Librarian

ZAI has an immediate opening for an Outreach Librarian to join our team of information professionals supporting the NOAA Central Library (NCL) in Silver Spring, Maryland. The Outreach Librarian works closely with the federal Head of Outreach Services to provide training and webinar services and promote the NCL through innovative marketing programs.

Although this is a virtual position, candidates must be available to work between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. EST. Candidates within the Eastern Time Zone are preferred.

Responsibilities include:

• Collaborates with the federal Head of Outreach to plan and execute library programs, exhibits, and special events


• Develops and executes online training webinars on library resources, such as Endnote and specialized digital resources


• Promotes and executes NOAA-based webinars using multiple platforms, such as Webex, Vimeo, and You Tube


• Supports communication activities and events to disseminate information about the library and its resources using traditional, electronic, and social media vehicles, as well as targeted outreach initiatives and activities


• Creates promotional materials, including e-newsletters, X (formerly Twitter) posts, etc.


• On a rotational basis, staff NCL’s virtual reference desk


• As required, provides back-up support to the reference and research team

Qualifications:

• MLS/MLIS/MIS


• 2-3 years of full-time experience as a professional librarian (experience in a scientific or academic library preferred)


• Strong communication skills, including effective writing skills and a demonstrated ability to communicate well across levels and function


• Experience planning and delivering outreach and marketing in a scientific, academic, or research library


• Expert in the use of virtual conference platforms to deliver training program


• Experience with Canva, and Adobe suite of products to produce marketing material


• Skilled in the use of citation management tools, EndNote preferred


• Solid foundation in reference skills, including experience with scientific databases, such as Web of Science,


• U.S. Citizenship
