The Role


Under the direction of the Coding Manager, the Coding Supervisor is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the coding department. This position will be responsible for monitoring coders’ work performance to ensure timely and accurate coding. In addition, this position will be required to assist with screening/hiring, training, development, and performance management of coding staff.


What You’ll Do



  • Demonstrate service excellence at all times to Clients (external Partners) and colleagues (internal Partners).

  • Assist with client implementations as needed

  • Treat all information and data within the scope of the position with complete confidentiality and security. Maintains all practices to protect PHI and follow HIPAA guidelines.

  • Efficiently navigate several computer applications during and after phone calls; document all actions taken in appropriate Acclara and/or client systems.

  • Adhere to benchmarks and strive for continuous improvement on client service metrics

  • Comply with Acclara policies such as time and attendance to ensure appropriate client coverage

  • Develop action plans as necessary to resolve knowledge gaps with employees or to address the implementation of new service offerings or code changes

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current coding practices and advises staff on coding/documentation guidelines to ensure regulatory compliance

  • Provide staff with training and resources on coding procedures & system workflow/functionality

  • Support maintenance of a comprehensive annual budget that reflects department needs & the application of cost-effective management.

  • Monitor efficiency and productivity to ensure compliance to departmental performance standards

  • Provide regular communication to direct reports, including feedback, mentoring and performance management

  • Research and respond to inquiries and requests regarding coding issues

  • Collaborate with Client Services Manager to maintain and follow up on client issues log, participate in client conference calls / meetings and develop work strategy

  • Organize and run internal team meetings for assigned Coding team members

  • Assist with the selection of, training/development needs of staff

  • Develop goals and objectives for both the department and individual employee. Devise methods for employees, individually and as a department, to obtain goals

  • Assist Coding Manager with payroll, Coder schedules, and other timekeeping and attendance functions

  • Prepare and deliver monthly Coder dashboards.

  • Other duties as assigned


What We’re Looking For



  • Associate degree in Health Information Management or related field or high school diploma with equivalent two (2) years of relevant experience and appropriate certifications may be substituted to meet education requirements. Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management or related field highly desirable.

  • Three (3) years previous experience in coding (CPT/ICD-10), medical record review, ICD-9/10, CPT and HCPCS coding proficiency.

  • Nationally recognized coding credential including, but not limited to CPC, COC, CCS, CCS-P, RHIA or RHIT through AHIMA/AAPC.

  • Excellent command of the ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 classification systems with thorough

  • understanding of the effect of data quality on prospective payment, utilization, and reimbursement

  • Understanding of all or a combination of ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS, medical terminology and HIPAA Compliance

  • Ability to lead a team to a high level of performance

  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite

  • Self-motivated and resourceful with the ability to work under general supervision in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks to meet deadlines under time pressures

  • Possess strong written and verbal communications skills to communicate effectively with, present information to, and respond to questions from individuals at all levels of the organization.

  • Possess excellent problem resolution skills

  • Possess excellent telephone etiquette and customer service

  • Be detail-oriented and possess excellent organizational skills

Pay Range: $36,000 - $72,000


This compensation range is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay Acclara in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting. Acclara may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range as permitted by law.
