Job Description Summary
The Adjunct Instructor, Leavitt School of Health is a part-time Faculty position providing course instruction and student support in the area of credentialed expertise. Instruction may include advanced concepts and/or clinical applications of concepts as applicable to the program
Student learning is the primary responsibility of WGU faculty. Adjunct Instructors are subject matter experts who teach and support students. Adjunct Instructors offer specialized instruction on topics in their course(s) aligned with best practices, as well as monitor and support student progress in competency development. They are responsive to learner needs and vary the type, length, method, and intensity of instruction best matched to the learner’s strengths and goals. Using technology, Adjunct Instructors may interact with students in both group and one-on-one settings. Instructors collaborate with other instructional and program faculty serving the students to ensure continuity and quality of support
Time Expectations:
The Adjunct Instructor position is part-time and is expected to work less than 25 hours per week (.625 FTE). Work volume/time may vary, depending on the needs of the program and learners
The exact days and times of instruction will be established between the Adjunct Instructor and their Faculty Manager and must align with learner availability and demand. This generally includes evening and weekend work. [Hiring manager can add specific schedule needs here.]
This appointment is expected to last X months from the date of hire. Anticipated timeframe is from Month/Year to Month/Year

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Act as a steward for carrying out WGU’s mission and strategic vision by demonstrating effective and consistent commitment to learner-centered, competency-based educational support
Provide specialized instruction on assigned topics aligned with course curriculum and best practices
Responsible for monitoring the course progress of an assigned group of learners in their course(s) and proactively offer support at key points of the student journey
Responsible for managing a case load of assigned students and supporting team members students/caseloads as needed
Provide expertise in assigned content area and maintains current knowledge in their field
Foster student learning through innovative, effective teaching practices
Use technology-based teaching and communication platforms to aid students in the development of competencies
Collaborate with other professionals within the university to promote a positive, student-obsessed atmosphere
Demonstrate initiative through independent completion of tasks
Adapt to changing priorities within the workplace
Participate in all required training activities
Consistently exhibits WGU Leadership Principles
Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned as the position evolves
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Demonstrated ability to customize instructional support for learners with various needs and educational backgrounds
Must demonstrate technological competency: proficiency in Microsoft Office (or similar) applications, virtual instructional platforms, and student management systems
Extraordinary customer service orientation
Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present information clearly, concisely, and accurately; friendly, persuasive speaking and writing style
Communicate effectively and respectfully within the context of varying beliefs, behaviors, orientations, identities, and cultural backgrounds and situations

Demonstrated ability to use data to make decisions
Strong understanding, acceptance, adherence, and promotion of the tenets of competency-based education in the WGU model

Job Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's Degree in Nursing. Education must be from an accredited institution and is verified
Active, unencumbered compact license to practice as a Registered Nurse
Minimum of 5 years of experience in leadership and management within the healthcare industry, in a mid-level role or higher position
Minimum of 2 years of experience providing post-secondary instruction
Demonstrated ability to work with diverse learner profiles
Ability to work a student-friendly schedule (evenings/weekends)
State and/or federal legislative requirements and/or college accreditation requirements may apply in order to maintain the necessary credentialing for this role
Preferred Qualifications:
Doctorate in nursing or health-related field, or terminal degree in a specific content area. Education must be from an accredited institution and is verified
Experience with distance education and distance learning students
Experience supporting graduate nursing programs
Additional healthcare certifications
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
Works primarily from home within the continental United States and is available to travel to meetings as required
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
