The opportunity

Reporting to the Senior Director, Digital Transformation, we are hiring an Applied AI Engineer to design, build, deploy, and optimize AI-powered applications and solutions that create measurable business value across the organization. As part of ThinkWELL, WELL’s enterprise intelligence, analytics and automation platform, you will focus on delivering AI agents, assistants, and workflow automations using Microsoft Copilot Studio and Power Platform, connected to governed enterprise data through Microsoft Fabric and other approved systems. You will configure and extend platform capabilities, develop integrations, prepare business context and instructions, test solution quality, and support deployment and adoption. Using established platform capabilities alongside code and integrations where needed, you will apply engineering judgment to deliver practical, reliable solutions within WELL’s enterprise architecture.

This is a fully remote role based anywhere in Canada, with a preference for candidates located in Toronto or Vancouver.

Who you are

You are an engineer or technical solution builder who has taken AI-enabled solutions into production. You enjoy working directly with business users to understand their needs, clarify assumptions, navigate technical trade-offs, and turn business challenges into practical solutions. You combine platform configuration with coding and integrations to build reliable applications, and you stay involved throughout deployment, adoption, and ongoing improvement.

You bring technical curiosity and sound judgment to your work. You ask thoughtful questions, challenge assumptions, and work collaboratively with business and technology teams to determine the best approach for each use case.

You are comfortable working through ambiguity and evolving requirements. You know how to use established platform capabilities where they fit, add code where needed, and balance innovation with reliability, security, scalability, and maintainability. You understand that successful AI solutions require more than good prompts: they depend on reliable data access, testing, appropriate controls, monitoring, and continuous improvement.

What's in it for you

Production ownership and impact. You will work alongside AI, data, and technology leaders to bring ThinkWELL solutions into everyday use across WELL. You will own work that reaches production, contribute to business outcomes, and see how the solutions you build help teams improve their workflows and work more effectively.

Build within an evolving enterprise AI platform. You will contribute to WELL’s enterprise intelligence, analytics and automation capabilities, working with Microsoft’s data and AI ecosystem to connect AI applications with governed enterprise data and approved systems. You will help turn prioritized business use cases into practical solutions that can be deployed, adopted, and improved over time.

Learning and growth. You will develop your skills as the platform and team grow, gaining hands-on experience in AI application delivery, enterprise integrations, solution evaluation, and production support. Working across business, data, technology, architecture, and security partners, you will broaden your understanding of how AI solutions are built and maintained within an enterprise environment.

As our new Applied AI Engineer, you will:

  • Build AI solutions. You will configure and extend Microsoft Copilot Studio agents, assistants, and Power Platform workflows around agreed business needs. You will add code and integrations where required, using platform capabilities to deliver practical solutions that address real business challenges.
  • Connect data and systems. You will connect governed Microsoft Fabric data and approved enterprise systems through APIs and connectors. Partnering with Data Engineering and Technology teams, you will support data readiness, authentication, permissions, and reliable access to the information AI solutions need.
  • Evaluate and improve AI performance. You will test solution accuracy, task completion, and failure handling, then monitor reliability, performance, usage, and cost once solutions are deployed. Working with architecture and security colleagues, you will apply approved security controls, guardrails, and deployment practices while using feedback and operational results to guide improvements.
  • Drive adoption. You will work directly with business users to demonstrate functionality, incorporate feedback, and support adoption after launch. You will help troubleshoot issues and improve solutions over time so they remain useful, reliable, and aligned with business needs.

Here's what you bring:

  • The technical foundation. You have experience in solution engineering, data engineering, automation, or related technical roles, including deploying and supporting production solutions. You bring strong programming skills in Python or another programming language to build integrations and extend platform capabilities. You also have experience with APIs, authentication, databases, and enterprise systems.
  • The applied AI expertise. You have hands-on experience building and deploying AI agents or assistants using Microsoft Copilot Studio, with production examples that demonstrate your capabilities. You understand concepts such as grounding, retrieval, tool calling, and workflow orchestration, and can apply them to build useful, reliable solutions.
  • The delivery mindset. You take ownership from development through production and ongoing support. You can work through ambiguity and dependencies, make practical technical decisions, and balance business needs with the reliability and maintainability required for enterprise solutions.
  • The stakeholder partnership. You communicate clearly with business and technical colleagues, helping clarify requirements, agree on priorities, and translate feedback into improvements. You work collaboratively across teams to keep solutions aligned with business needs and technical requirements.
  • The curiosity and continuous learning. You are interested in emerging AI capabilities and can assess their practical value, scalability, and maintainability. You enjoy learning new tools and approaches and applying them thoughtfully to solve business problems.

Preferred qualifications

Experience with Power Automate, Microsoft Fabric, Azure AI services, Microsoft Entra ID, or Logic Apps is an asset. Experience with other AI platforms, agent frameworks, AI coding tools, enterprise search, monitoring, or evaluation practices is also valuable. Experience working in healthcare or other regulated, privacy-sensitive environments is useful.
