If you've worked in care, healthcare, residential support or with people who have complex needs, you may already have many of the skills needed to work within specialist education.
We're recruiting Personal Care Assistants to support young adults aged 19-30 within a specialist learning environment.
The learners have a range of additional needs including Autism (ASC), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD) and Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD).
This isn't simply a personal care role.
You'll be helping young adults participate in education, develop life skills, communicate, make choices and become as independent as possible.
Care, Learning and Independence
Personal care forms an important part of the role and you'll need to be comfortable providing support with toileting, changing, hygiene, feeding and mobility where required.
But your day will extend far beyond that.
You'll also support learners during lessons and activities, encourage communication and social interaction, help them practise everyday skills and provide the consistency and reassurance some learners need to engage successfully with their day.
You'll work alongside teachers, therapists and specialist support professionals, with each learner supported according to their individual education and care needs.
You'll Be Involved In
- Personal care delivered sensitively and with dignity
- Mealtime and feeding support where required
- Mobility, transfers and positioning in line with individual plans
- Classroom and learning activities
- Developing communication and interaction
- Encouraging choice and independence
- Supporting practical and everyday life skills
- Monitoring wellbeing and reporting concerns
- Following individual care and support plans
- Working as part of a multidisciplinary specialist team
You don't necessarily need to have worked in a school before.
We'd be particularly interested in hearing from people with experience in:
Care and support work | Healthcare | Residential care | Learning disabilities | Autism support | PMLD | SEN/SEND | Youth support | Education
What matters is that you understand the responsibility involved in supporting vulnerable young adults and are comfortable providing personal care as part of your working day.
You'll also need patience, reliability, good communication skills and the ability to build warm but professional relationships with the people you support.

8:45am-3:00pm
You'll gain valuable experience within specialist education while continuing to use your existing care and support skills in a different environment.
There may also be opportunities for longer-term or permanent employment.
