The Role


Cineflix Media is looking for a bold and commercially minded creative Head of Development to originate, secure, and convert a high-performing slate of projects into commissioned series across Canada and the US, in collaboration with Cineflix’ senior management. This is a full-time role based in our Toronto, Ontario office on a hybrid in-office schedule.


Reporting to the President, Productions, the Head of Development will inspire a vibrant development team to originate distinctive ideas, uncover great stories and talent, and turn them into compelling, high-value, returnable shows. This is a hands-on creative leadership role for someone with a strong point of view, exceptional storytelling instincts and a proven ability to convert ambitious ideas into commissioned series.


Working closely with our London development team, the successful candidate will help create a collaborative, ideas-led culture that keeps Cineflix creatively ambitious, commercially relevant and ahead of the market.


The salary range for this role is CAD $150,000–$200,000


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a bold, commissioning-focused development strategy.
  • Inspire the development team to generate original ideas, write compelling decks, create standout sizzles and pitch with impact.
  • Build a dynamic slate of distinctive, scalable and returnable programming.
  • Identify exceptional stories, talent, IP and access-driven opportunities.
  • Shape projects from the first spark of an idea through pitching, sale and greenlight.
  • Build strong creative partnerships with broadcasters, streamers, producers and talent.
  • Work closely with the London team to package and pitch projects for the global market.
  • Create an ambitious, collaborative development culture where the strongest ideas can thrive.


Experience and Capabilities

  • A proven track record of multiple recent commissions with major Canadian and/or US buyers.
  • Deep, current relationships with commissioners, buyers and creative talent.
  • Exceptional creative vision, editorial judgement and storytelling instincts.
  • A strong understanding of the Canadian and US unscripted market.
  • Demonstrated success developing and pitching distinctive, returnable programming.
  • An inspiring leadership style and experience building high-performing creative teams.
  • Production experience in the field or edit is an asset.
