Job Description

The collaborative practice located at Victoria County Memorial Hospital (VCMH) in Baddeck, Cape Breton is seeking a full-scope family physician to join their team.

Physicians with an interest or added competency in Emergency Medicine as part of their practice are encouraged to apply and will be supported at VCMH. There is currently an Urgent Treatment Centre as well as an opportunity to support re-opening of a Level 4 Emergency Department at the site.

Family physicians may also participate in teaching through the family medicine residency program based in Sydney and/or with medical students through Dalhousie University. Dalhousie, in collaboration with Cape Breton University will be establishing a medical campus, training Family Physicians for rural Nova Scotia, accepting its first cohort of learners this fall!

VCMH Serves a Population Of Approximately 5,500 Through Inpatient, Outpatient, And Satellite Care. The Hospital Also Houses Offices For Home Care Nova Scotia, Public Health, Addiction Services, And Adolescent Services. A Variety Of Clinics Are Held At The Hospital Including:

  • ophthalmology
  • foot clinics
  • well women’s clinics

Victoria County Memorial Hospital (VCMH) provides comprehensive healthcare services to a population of approximately 5,500 through inpatient, outpatient, and satellite care. The hospital is home to offices for Home Care Nova Scotia, Public Health, addiction services, and adolescent services, offering a range of community-based support programs. VCMH currently operates an Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) and is actively working toward converting it back to a Level 4 Emergency Department to better serve the community's urgent and emergent care needs. Additionally, a variety of specialized clinics are available on-site, including ophthalmology, foot clinics, and well women’s clinics, enhancing access to essential medical services for residents in the region.

Responsibilities

  • ensure delivery of comprehensive primary health care services to practice patients of all ages and stages of health or illness
  • provide a full scope of services

Expected Hours

  • full-time 37.5 hours per week
  • 46 weeks per year

Remuneration

  • $375,000 - $400,000 CAD
  • Remuneration type is either Longitudinal Family Medicine payment model or a Fee for Service payment model.
