Opportunity at Microserve

Position Summary

Microserve is looking for a Director, People & Culture to ensure our people, leaders, and teams have the support, programs, and practices they need to do great work and grow with the company. This is a hands-on leadership role for a strong operator who brings structure, discipline, and follow-through to the People & Culture function, while also driving the continuous development and optimization of our people programs, processes, and employee experience. The Director will be responsible for ensuring core people operations, recruitment, HR programs, compensation processes, and employee experience initiatives are delivered consistently, accurately, and on time.

The successful candidate is a strong people leader and an excellent operator. They are comfortable managing competing priorities, building practical processes, supporting leaders, and ensuring the People & Culture team delivers a high level of service to employees and the business. This role requires someone who can move comfortably between execution, leadership, and continuous improvement: solving operational issues, coaching team members, managing programs, and helping ensure Microserve’s people practices continue to evolve with the needs of the business. This role also requires someone who is comfortable using technology, automation, AI-enabled tools, and data to improve how work gets done, reduce manual effort, and strengthen the quality and consistency of People & Culture programs.

Key Responsibilities

People & Culture Operations and Program Management

  • Lead the day-to-day operations of the People & Culture function, ensuring programs, processes, employee requests, documentation, and leader support are delivered efficiently and consistently.
  • Lead the planning, execution, communication and continuous optimization of People & Culture programs, including Compensation & Total Rewards, Performance Management, Employee Engagement, Professional Development & Career Growth, Goal Setting & Organizational Alignment (OKRs), and more.
  • Oversee employee lifecycle activities including onboarding, employee changes, promotions, transfers, leaves of absence, offboarding, and related documentation.
  • Provide guidance and escalation support on employee relations matters, performance concerns, policy interpretation, workplace accommodations, investigations, and sensitive employee issues.
  • Ensure HR policies, procedures, templates, workflows, and employee documentation are accurate, current, compliant, and easy for leaders and employees to use.
  • Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency, simplify processes, strengthen accountability, and create a consistent employee and leader experience.
  • Identify opportunities to use technology, automation, AI-enabled tools, and better workflows to continuously streamline People & Culture processes, reduce administrative burden, improve accuracy, and create a better employee and leader experience.
  • Use HR data, reporting, and metrics to monitor service levels, identify trends, support decision-making, and recommend continuous improvements.
  • Ensure confidential employee information is handled with professionalism, discretion, and in accordance with applicable privacy and employment standards requirements.

Talent Acquisition

  • Lead a proactive, outbound-focused talent acquisition approach that builds strong candidate pipelines and identifies high-quality talent for current and future hiring needs.
  • Set clear expectations for recruitment activity, sourcing quality, hiring manager responsiveness, pipeline health, candidate experience, and time-to-fill.
  • Personally support and participate in sourcing, outreach, screening, and hiring processes for senior, confidential, hard-to-fill, or business-critical roles as needed.
  • Identify opportunities to improve recruitment workflows, strengthen hiring manager accountability, and support a positive candidate and new hire experience.

Compensation & Total Rewards

  • Lead compensation and total rewards programs that support attraction, retention, internal equity, and business performance, ensuring they are practical, well managed, and aligned with organizational priorities.
  • Partner with the President on compensation planning, internal equity assessments, salary range application, and compensation recommendations that support organizational goals.
  • Prepare compensation analysis, employee data, leader materials, and decision-support summaries for pay-related programs and recommendations.
  • Recommend compensation and variable pay approaches that support desired behaviours, performance accountability, retention, and business outcomes.

Employee Wellness, Engagement, & Community

  • Lead programs and initiatives that support employee wellness, engagement, recognition, community involvement, and organizational culture.
  • Develop and implement strategies that strengthen employee experience, wellbeing, participation, and connection to Microserve's values.
  • Build and maintain relationships with community organizations, charitable partners, educational institutions, industry associations, and other external stakeholders that support Microserve's people and community objectives.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen employee participation, volunteerism, community impact, and external engagement activities.
  • Translate employee feedback, engagement survey results, and participation data into practical actions that strengthen engagement, wellbeing, inclusion, and organizational culture.

ESG Program (Environmental, Social & Governance) Participation & Reporting

  • Identify, develop, and implement People & Culture initiatives that contribute to Microserve's ESG objectives and strengthen outcomes.
  • Partner with Operations and business leaders to contribute People & Culture insights, employee-focused initiatives, and participation metrics that support ESG objectives.
  • Lead the development of ESG-related communications, reporting, and storytelling materials that highlight Microserve's people, community, and social impact initiatives.

Corporate Services

  • Develop and lead a Corporate Services function that provides high-quality administrative, executive support, workplace services, and coordination support across the organization.
  • Lead and support administrative and executive support resources, establishing clear service standards, priorities, accountability, and development opportunities.
  • Ensure effective coordination of leadership activities, company programs, internal communications, events, travel, and other cross-functional initiatives that support business priorities.
  • Manage Corporate Services vendors, budgets, contracts, and related operational requirements as applicable.

Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead, coach, and support members of the People & Culture team, ensuring clear priorities, accountability, service standards, and development opportunities.
  • Provide practical guidance to team members on operational issues, employee matters, program execution, documentation, and leader support.
  • Act as a trusted partner to leaders by providing clear, balanced, and business-oriented People & Culture advice.
  • Model Microserve’s values through professional judgment, high follow-through, strong communication, and a commitment to continuous improvement.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related discipline; CPHR designation or working toward designation is considered an asset.
  • 10+ years of progressive Human Resources / People & Culture experience, including experience leading HR operations, employee relations, recruitment support, compensation management, and people programs.
  • 3+ years of experience leading, coaching, or managing HR team members or cross-functional project teams.
  • Strong working knowledge of Canadian employment standards, HR compliance requirements, employee relations practices, and HR documentation standards.
  • Demonstrated experience managing relevant HR programs within similar sized or larger organizations than Microserve.
  • Experience leading proactive talent acquisition practices, including outbound sourcing, pipeline development, hiring manager partnership, and recruitment execution for senior or hard-to-fill roles.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to build timelines, manage details, follow up consistently, and deliver programs on schedule.
  • Comfortable working with HRIS, ATS, Microsoft 365, spreadsheets, reporting tools, process documentation, and AI-enabled or automation tools, with the ability to use systems and data to improve efficiency, accuracy, visibility, and service delivery.
  • Experience in a fast-paced, multi-location, professional services, or service-oriented environment is considered an asset.
