Toronto, ON | Hybrid
We are working with an established Canadian construction organization to identify and introduce strong candidates for a Business Development Manager opportunity based in Toronto.
Our client is continuing to build its presence in Ontario and is looking for someone who knows the local construction and development market, has established industry relationships, and can create meaningful opportunities through a combination of networking, market knowledge and disciplined follow-up.
This is a relationship-focused growth role with significant interaction across leadership, preconstruction, estimating, operations and marketing.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Develop new business opportunities across the Ontario construction market by identifying prospective clients, upcoming developments and potential project opportunities
- Build productive long-term relationships with developers, owners, consultants and other professionals who influence construction decisions
- Use your existing network to open doors while continuing to expand your reach within the Ontario real estate and construction community
- Stay close to the market so the organization is aware of potential projects well before they formally come to market
- Gather information on client priorities, competitors, market activity and upcoming developments and turn that information into practical business development activity
- Work with internal teams to determine which opportunities make sense to pursue and how best to position the company
- Participate in client meetings, presentations, interviews and other activities that help move opportunities toward an award
- Contribute commercial and relationship intelligence during proposal and pursuit planning
- Attend selected industry events and networking functions as a visible representative of the organization
- Keep opportunity and relationship information current and provide leadership with a clear picture of active prospects, developing leads and future pipeline
- Approximately 5 to 10 years of relevant experience in business development, client development, construction, commercial real estate, development, architecture, engineering or a closely related field
- A strong understanding of how construction projects are sourced, pursued and ultimately awarded
- Existing relationships within the Ontario development, real estate or construction community
- Evidence that you have personally helped create new client relationships and convert those relationships into measurable business
- Comfort dealing with senior decision-makers, owners, developers, consultants and other industry stakeholders
- A good understanding of competitive procurement and the various ways construction opportunities move from early discussion through qualification, proposal and award
- Strong commercial instincts and the ability to recognize which opportunities deserve time and resources
- Confident communication and presentation skills, combined with a natural ability to build credibility over time
- A self-directed approach with the organization and persistence required to manage a long sales cycle and multiple relationships at once
Compensation Transparency
The expected compensation range for this role is $120,000 to $150,000 annually, plus package, depending on experience, skills, qualifications, certifications, and overall fit for the position.
