The ideal candidate has strong customer service skills, attention to detail, and enjoys working in a fast-paced industrial environment. Experience in scrap metal recycling, material grading, or scale operations is an asset but not required.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate inbound and outbound scales to accurately weigh and process material transactions.
- Inspect, identify, and grade incoming ferrous and non-ferrous scrap materials.
- Direct customers to appropriate unloading locations and explain material acceptance procedures.
- Process purchase transactions and facilitate customer payments.
- Provide excellent customer service and answer questions regarding accepted materials and pricing.
- Coordinate with office and operations personnel to ensure accurate transaction documentation.
- Complete required regulatory and vehicle documentation.
- Communicate material quality requirements and pricing information to customers and internal teams.
- Monitor scale accuracy and report equipment issues or maintenance needs.
- Maintain compliance with company safety, environmental, and operational policies.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to work safely in a busy industrial environment.
- Willingness to work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team while maintaining attention to detail.
- Ability to perform physical duties including standing, walking, bending, climbing, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Experience in scale operations, recycling, scrap metal, logistics, trucking, warehousing, aggregates, waste management, or industrial environments.
- Knowledge of non-ferrous and ferrous metals identification and grading.
- Experience working in a high-traffic, safety-focused workplace.
- Combination of office and outdoor work in an active recycling facility.
- Exposure to weather, noise, dust, machinery, and moving equipment.
- Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including steel-toed boots, hearing protection, and other safety equipment provided by the company.
