The General Labourer provides day-to-day support to site operations by assisting with general maintenance, housekeeping, material handling, groundskeeping, and other labour-related activities. This position works closely with Maintenance, Operations, Warehouse, and other site teams to help maintain a safe, clean, organized, and efficient work environment.
Job Requirements
Qualifications and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous experience in general labour, industrial operations, construction, maintenance, warehousing, or a similar environment is considered an asset.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence preferred.
- Telehandler, skid steer, aerial work platform, or other equipment certifications are considered assets.
- Basic knowledge of hand and power tools is considered an asset.
- First Aid certification is considered an asset.
- Willingness to complete required company and safety training.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety.
- Reliable, punctual, and dependable.
- Ability to follow instructions and established procedures.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Willingness to learn new skills and take on different responsibilities.
- Ability to work independently with appropriate direction.
- Good organizational and housekeeping habits.
- Ability to recognize hazards and communicate concerns.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced industrial environment where priorities may change.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work throughout the shift.
- Ability to safely lift and carry materials up to approximately 50 lbs.
- Frequent walking, standing, bending, reaching, lifting, and carrying.
- Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in varied weather conditions.
- Ability to safely use required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Ability to work around industrial equipment and active work areas.
- Perform general labour duties throughout the site as assigned.
- Assist the Maintenance team with routine maintenance activities and basic non-technical tasks.
- Support preventative maintenance activities under the direction of qualified personnel.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas, shops, storage areas, and common spaces.
- Perform general housekeeping including sweeping, cleaning, garbage removal, and maintaining designated work areas.
- Assist with snow removal, groundskeeping, and seasonal site maintenance.
- Assist with loading, unloading, moving, and staging materials, equipment, and supplies.
- Support Warehouse and Logistics activities when required, including organizing and moving materials.
- Assist with setup and cleanup for maintenance work, projects, contractor activities, and site events.
- Help maintain tools and equipment by cleaning, organizing, and properly storing them after use.
- Perform basic inspections and report damaged equipment, facility deficiencies, hazards, or maintenance concerns to the appropriate supervisor.
- Assist with minor repairs and general facility upkeep within the employee's training and authorization.
- Operate company vehicles, forklifts, skid steers, or other equipment when properly trained and authorized.
- Follow all site access, security, environmental, and safety requirements.
- Participate in toolbox meetings, safety meetings, training, and other site programs.
- Complete Field Level Hazard Assessments (FLHAs) and other required safety documentation before performing applicable work.
- Report hazards, near misses, incidents, and unsafe conditions immediately.
- Exercise Stop Work Authority when work cannot be performed safely.
- Work collaboratively with employees, contractors, and other departments.
- Perform other duties as assigned based on site and operational requirements.
- All employees are responsible for contributing to a safe workplace. The General Labourer is expected to follow established safety procedures, participate in required training, identify and report hazards, and stop work when conditions are unsafe.
- Employees must only perform work and operate equipment for which they have received appropriate training and authorization.
