Your Opportunity:

The successful candidate will provide support within the Operative Services ATC, including the operating theatres and the recovery room.  Primary responsibilities include cleaning and restocking of the operating rooms, and the safe handling of medical equipment and sterile products but are not limited to: Assemble case carts and OR tables for specific surgical procedures under the direction of the surgeon and nursing staff. Handling and restocking hospital equipment and supplies. Assures that biohazard is housed in appropriate container. Environmental cleaning of the Operating Room including disinfecting patient use items and equipment. All duties require the ability to function as a member of the healthcare team with the shared goal of maintaining a hygienic, well-equipped and safe patient environment that all staff are proud to be a part of. The ATCOR is a busy fast-paced environment and does over 15,000 cases a year. Rotating day shifts (0645-1500, 0730-1545, 0830-1645, and 0900-1715).

Description:

As a Service Worker II, you will be responsible for readying supplies, and cleaning/disinfecting instruments and specialty equipment for immediate use/reuse by healthcare staff. You will distribute and replenish patient care supplies, perform quality control tests on equipment and record maintenance data. You may also transport patients (clients/residents), equipment, lab specimens, blood and blood products, and patient charts. You will report any concerns regarding supplies and safety issues to Unit Managers and perform other duties as required. In addition, you will ensure that patient care areas and other assigned areas are accurately stocked and that specialty equipment required by the healthcare staff is available.

Required Qualifications:

Grade 12 or equivalent.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Must be able to read, write, and communicate fluently in the English language.  The incumbent must be able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and manage a fast paced, demanding environment that has shifting daily priorities.  Due to the nature of the physically demanding duties, the incumbent must be able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team while maintaining confidential information.   Must be reliable, cooperative, and demonstrate a high level of flexibility. Previous training and/or experience working in an operating room is desirable.     Is aware of and follows WHS standards while performing duties in the work environment. Reporting concerns regarding supplies and safety issues to the Unit Managers. To ensure your skills and qualifications are considered please attach a resume and cover letter with your application. Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of body mechanics is an asset along with a true interest in health care and the desire to help others. Preference will be given to those applicants that have current experience and knowledge working in an operating room handling specialty instruments and medical supplies specific to the surgical services Ophthalmology, Otolaryngology and Oral Maxillofacial, and who have current training and knowledge working with routine and additional infection prevention precautions.
