The Opportunity
A growing, manufacturing-focused organization is seeking a Buyer to support and optimize purchasing operations. This role plays a key part in ensuring a consistent and uninterrupted supply of materials while driving process improvements, supplier performance, and cost efficiencies.
You’ll work closely with internal teams and global suppliers, helping manage both day-to-day purchasing activities and longer-term initiatives tied to inventory, cost reduction, and operational performance.
What You’ll Do
- Support and execute purchasing strategies aligned with operational goals and KPIs
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Scheduling, Production, Engineering, Quality, and Customer Service teams
- Act as a key point of contact for overseas and North American suppliers
- Utilize ERP/MRP systems to manage demand planning, purchase orders, and inventory requirements
- Review planned orders and issue purchase orders accordingly
- Maintain accurate purchase order data including pricing, quantities, and delivery timelines
- Monitor and resolve past due orders through daily reporting and vendor follow-up
- Support cost reduction initiatives through vendor sourcing, benchmarking, and negotiations
- Build and maintain strong supplier relationships while managing performance and risk
- Assist with vendor pricing cycles and support negotiations with overseas suppliers
- Support daily MRP processes and month-end close activities
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Supply Chain Management
- Professional certifications (CSCL or APICS) are an asset
- Minimum 5 years of experience in purchasing and supply chain management
- Experience with overseas sourcing and inventory control preferred
- Exposure to a manufacturing environment (high mix, low volume)
- Fluency in Mandarin is required
- Strong understanding of ERP/MRP systems
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Strong relationship-building and communication skills
- High level of organization, analytical thinking, and problem-solving ability
- Understanding of foreign exchange impacts on purchasing decisions
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ERP systems
- Experience with ROP, forecasting, and lean methodologies is a plus
- Knowledge of welding, machining, or fabrication is an asset
Work Environment
- Manufacturing setting with exposure to noise, temperature variation, and active production environments
- Regular interaction with production and operations teams
- Occasional lifting of materials up to 25 lbs
- Periodic travel to suppliers or other locations may be required
