Role Description The Traffic Control Person is a full-time, on-site role based in Vernon, BC. This role is responsible for directing vehicle and pedestrian traffic around construction and work zones, using signs, hand signals, and traffic control devices to ensure safety and compliance with regulations. Day-to-day tasks include setting up and taking down traffic control equipment, monitoring traffic flow, responding to changing road and site conditions, and communicating clearly with drivers, site supervisors, and co-workers. The Traffic Control Person also completes basic documentation, follows safety protocols, and reports hazards or incidents promptly. The role requires working outdoors in varying weather conditions and maintaining a professional and attentive presence at all times.
Qualifications
- Candidates should possess strong skills in Traffic Control and Road Traffic to safely direct vehicles and pedestrians around work sites.
- Candidates should possess knowledge of Traffic Management to support safe, efficient, and compliant operations on and around roadways.
- Candidates should possess effective Communication skills to interact with drivers, coworkers, and site supervisors, and to follow instructions accurately.
- Candidates should possess basic Operations Management awareness to set up, maintain, and dismantle traffic control layouts in accordance with site plans.
- Valid traffic control certification (or willingness to obtain), understanding of local traffic laws and safety regulations, and commitment to safe work practices.
- Ability to stand for extended periods, work outdoors in varying weather, and handle equipment such as signs, cones, and barricades.
- Reliable transportation to job sites in and around Vernon, BC, and flexibility to work different shifts, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends as needed.
- Previous experience in traffic control, construction, or related fields is an asset, as is familiarity with occupational health and safety standards.
