What’s The Job
The Junior Accountant supports day-to-day accounting operations, including account reconciliations, journal entries, payment processing, and month-end activities. This role helps ensure accurate financial records and timely reporting.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Prepare and reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring supporting schedules and working papers are accurate, complete, and properly maintained.
- Post journal entries, including accruals, depreciation, prepaid expenses, intercompany transactions, and other month-end adjustments, with appropriate supporting documentation.
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations and investigate and resolve reconciling items on a timely basis.
- Maintain and update account schedules, reconciliations, and financial reporting workbooks to support accurate reporting.
- Support period-end close activities by completing assigned tasks within established deadlines.
- Process daily demand runs and records related transactions in the accounting system accurately and timely.
- Process semi-monthly Rental PAP transactions and ensure supporting entries are properly recorded.
- Perform bank, intercompany, and other balance sheet account reconciliations, identifying and resolving discrepancies as needed.
- Assist with audit requests and provide supporting documentation for internal and external reporting requirements.
- Contribute to process improvements and help maintain effective internal controls and accounting procedures.
- Provide backup and vacation coverage for other accounting team members.
- Assist with ad hoc projects and other duties as assigned.
- 1–2 years of accounting experience in a high-volume, transactional environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Commerce, or a related field.
- Enrolled in CPA PEP or in progress with CPA PREP program.
- Strong attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy and commitment to quality work.
- Solid analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate and resolve discrepancies independently.
- Well-organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Self-motivated and proactive, with a strong sense of ownership, accountability, and follow-through.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across departments.
- Adaptable and willing to take on new responsibilities as business needs evolve.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience with ERP systems, particularly Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, is an asset.
- Previous experience in the financial services industry is an asset.
