Job Summary
As a Junior HSE Advisor you will support several projects and facilities to meet the requirements of the Health, Safety and Environment Management systems. The role will also involve assisting the site teams and managers by recognizing hazards through inspection and seeking to minimize risks while creating, maintaining, and improving the health, safety, environmental standards. You will support and monitor HSE initiatives in the workplace, ensuring that legislation is adhered to, and fostering a better work environment while being a leader and advocate for safety in the workplace.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop comprehensive hazard assessments, job practices, and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
- Lead inspections independently and collaborate as a team, demonstrating a thorough understanding of safety protocols.
- Promote the identification and reporting of leading indicators to enhance proactive safety measures.
- Provide valuable support to supervisors and management in addressing identified deficiencies and hazards promptly.
- Coach employees, supervisors, visitors, and contractors on safe work procedures and practices, fostering a safety-conscience culture.
- Actively contribute to the establishment and reinforcement of a safety-first mentality while supporting safe production practices.
- Conduct orientation sessions for new personnel and assist supervisors in familiarizing new workers with on-site protocols.
- Play a key role in first aid response, including restocking first aid supplies and ensuring prompt and effective emergency response.
- Support health and safety program through various initiatives, including performing hazard assessments, delivering on-the-job training, verifying, and supporting competency records, completing incident reports, conducting health and safety inspections, and participating in emergency response plan drills.
- Conduct regular visits/tours to all Steelhaus facilities during operational hours to ensure adherence to safety standards.
- Deliver impactful safety meetings, presentations, and training sessions to workers, supervisors, and managers.
- 1 – 3 years of practical occupational health and safety experience in the workplace.
- OHS certification is desirable.
- Previous experience in a manufacturing environment would be an asset.
- Knowledge of Alberta Occupational Health & Safety Legislation.
- Ability to interpret and explain legislation, regulations, rules, and policies/procedures.
- Proven ability to identify and proactively resolve issues in a timely manner.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey information clearly and concisely at all organizational levels.
- Resourcefulness and the capacity to work independently, managing time effectively.
- Working level understanding of basic health and safety functions, including hazard identification, incident investigations, and ergonomics.
- Effective communicate by phone, email and/or text.
- Able to use Microsoft office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
