The West Vancouver Parks Department is accepting applications to fill one Permanent Full-Time Park Attendant (Lighthouse Park); and one Contract- Term Temporary Full-Time Park Attendant – Park Ranger (for approximately 24 months).

The Park Attendants Will Be Responsible For The Following

  • Providing public safety through interacting with park users and parks patrolling;
  • Educating Park users on parks rules, regulations, bylaws and wildlife interactions;
  • Working with various park user groups (such as sports organizations, stewardship groups and events organizers/participants);
  • Maintaining trails by removing vegetation using line trimmer, blowers, and hedge trimmers;
  • Reporting any issues in the Parks through the appropriate channels (e.g. Bylaw, Police, Fire, and other Departments);
  • Performing manual tasks involved in invasive species remediation;
  • Maintenance, litter collection, and beach clean ups;
  • Sufficient physical strength and stamina to permit the performance of manual outdoor work in all types of weather;
  • Winter duties of the parks department as required.

The successful candidate may also be assisting with: turfgrass mowing and maintenance, garbage/litter/recycling collection, park construction; graffiti removal, sign and trail maintenance, playground maintenance; snow removal, and other related duties as operationally required. The position is considered manual work, requiring strength, effort and stamina. Candidates must also have a demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

The Successful Candidate Will Possess

  • An aptitude/interest in Park Operations;
  • General knowledge concerning safe use of landscape maintenance equipment;
  • Basic knowledge of vegetation maintenance including weeding, planting and pruning;
  • Basic knowledge of native and invasive plants;
  • Sufficient physical strength, stamina and coordination to permit the performance of manual outdoor work in all types of weather;
  • An ability to build and maintain positive and effective working relationships with the public and the staff team;
  • Ability to exercise excellent customer service skills when interacting with park users and the general public;
  • Knowledge of, and the ability to make decisions in accordance with, departmental policies, practices, rules and regulations related to the work performed;
  • Experience driving large trucks on streets and within parks and around people; and,
  • Possession of a valid Class 5 Driver’s License for the Province of BC.
  • Experience operating tractors, ride-on mowers, and chainsaws is considered an asset.

Position Status

Hours Of Work

40 hours per week (hours and days of work may vary, but include weekends)

Starting Rate Of Pay

$30.88 per hour (2025 rate)

This position has a pay structure with three steps which increase after a certain number of hours worked.
