Stem Health is reimagining the primary care experience for individuals who want a more thoughtful relationship with their health. Physician-led and membership-based, we combine medical excellence with the warmth of hospitality anchored in a beautifully designed flagship clinic at First Canadian Place, opening September 2026. Our care model is relationship-based, data-informed, and built on time, trust, and exceptional service.
The Opportunity
Design is not decoration at Stem Health, it is how we communicate care. Every touchpoint a member encounters, from the moment they book their first appointment to the way they receive their health insights, is shaped by thoughtful, intentional design. We are building something that needs to feel as good as it works.
We are looking for a UI/UX Design Intern to join our team for a 4-month term and contribute hands-on to the design of Stem Health's digital products and member-facing experiences. This is a meaningful internship for a student or recent graduate who is serious about design, curious about healthcare, and eager to do real work in a fast-moving, early-stage environment.
You will work closely with our product and technology team, contribute to live design projects, and leave with a portfolio that reflects work that was actually shipped.
What You'll Work On
Digital product design
- Contribute to the design of Stem Health's member-facing digital products including the member portal, onboarding flows, appointment and care coordination interfaces, and health dashboard experiences.
- Create wireframes, user flows, prototypes, and high-fidelity mockups that communicate design intent clearly and support fast, iterative development cycles.
- Participate in design reviews and contribute ideas, questions, and design rationale in a collaborative team environment.
- Support user research activities including conducting or synthesizing interviews, usability tests, and feedback sessions to inform design decisions with real user insight.
- Help map member journeys and identify friction points across digital and physical touchpoints, translating findings into actionable design opportunities.
- Contribute to personal development, journey mapping, and experience documentation that keeps the team aligned on who we are designing for and why.
- Work within and contribute to Stem Health's evolving design system maintaining consistency in components, typography, colour usage, spacing, and interaction patterns across all design work.
- Help document design guidelines and component specifications that support handoff to engineering and ensure designs are built as intended.
- Assist with the audit and refinement of existing screens and interfaces, identifying inconsistencies and proposing improvements aligned with brand and usability standards.
- Support the creation of member-facing communications assets including emails, in-clinic digital screens, onboarding materials, and presentation templates that reflect Stem Health's visual identity and brand voice.
- Contribute to the visual expression of Stem Health's brand across digital contexts, ensuring a cohesive, premium aesthetic that aligns with our positioning.
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a post-secondary program in UI/UX design, interaction design, product design, visual communication, or a related field.
- A portfolio that demonstrates strong visual design sensibility, clear UX thinking, and the ability to communicate design decisions — even if your projects are academic or personal work.
- Proficiency in Figma (required); familiarity with prototyping tools, design system concepts, and component-based design workflows.
- A solid understanding of UX fundamentals: user flows, information architecture, usability principles, and the importance of designing for real people, not hypothetical ones.
- Strong attention to detail — you notice when spacing is off, when type hierarchy is unclear, and when a flow has unnecessary steps.
- A collaborative, curious mindset — you ask good questions, take feedback well, and are genuinely interested in understanding the problem before jumping to solutions.
- An interest in healthcare, wellness, or health technology is a plus; a willingness to learn the context quickly is essential.
- Real design work on a live product you will contribute to experiences that actual members will use, not internal exercises filed away in a folder.
- Direct exposure to product and technology decision-making in an early-stage healthcare company, with the opportunity to understand how design sits within a broader product development process.
- Mentorship and feedback from experienced designers and product thinkers who care about craft and are invested in your growth.
- A portfolio piece from a distinctive, design-forward healthcare brand that is thoughtfully building something new.
Ideal Candidate
You are someone who cares deeply about design — not just how things look, but how they work and how they make people feel. You are organized, self-directed, and not afraid to ask for clarity when you need it. You bring thoughtfulness to your work, hold yourself to a high standard, and are as interested in the reasoning behind a design decision as the decision itself. You want to leave this internship with work you are genuinely proud of — and you are willing to put in what that takes.
