Job Description

The Mortgage Insurance Specialist is responsible for the accurate and timely administration of mortgage insurance obligations, including FHA Mortgage Insurance Premiums (MIP), Private Mortgage Insurance (PMI), and USDA Guaranteed Annual Fees (GAF). This role ensures compliance with investor, insurer, and regulatory requirements by processing insurance payments, refunds, cancellations, and maintaining accurate mortgage insurance records.

The Specialist researches and resolves billing exceptions and discrepancies, processes borrower‑initiated and automatic requests to remove PMI, and communicates effectively with borrowers, insurers, and government agencies. The position requires strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and professional written and verbal communication to support compliant mortgage servicing and positive borrower experiences. The role also involves identifying and resolving discrepancies between internal systems and mortgage insurance carrier data through detailed reconciliation processes. Additionally, the specialist provides support to the Call Center, ensuring seamless communication and resolution of PMI-related issues.

  • Ensures timely and accurate payments of Hazard, Private Mortgage Insurance (PMI), and Mortgage Insurance Premium (MIP) insurance.
  • Facilitates the disbursement and maintenance of hazard insurance claims.
  • Ensures all optional insurance premiums are remitted to carriers in a timely manner.
  • Receives and responds to both internal and external customers via telephone or written correspondence in a timely and professional manner.
  • Research assigned tasks in addition to exception items from various sources


Basic Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Four or more years of experience in business and general office environment


Preferred Skills/Experience

  • Strong understanding of the business and perfected office skills
  • Demonstrated administrative skills and acute attention to detail
  • Strong reading, writing and mathematical skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks/projects and deadlines simultaneously
  • Ability to identify and resolve exceptions and to interpret data
  • Proficient computer skills, especially Microsoft Office applications and graphics
  • Well-developed verbal, grammatical, and written communication skills


The role offers a hybrid/flexible schedule, which means there's an in-office expectation of 3 or more days per week and the flexibility to work outside the office location for the other days.

The salary range reflects figures based on the primary location, which is listed first. The actual range for the role may differ based on the location of the role. In addition to salary, U.S. Bank offers a comprehensive benefits package, including incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase 401(k) contribution and pension (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). Pay Range: $20.00 - $24.38
