People Operations - US

sunday

Full time Posted: 3 weeks ago Accounting and Finance

Hiring from: United States

About Us

sunday is building the fastest, simplest way to pay in restaurants. With a quick scan of a QR code, diners can pay, tip, and leave in about 10 seconds. We believe great products should feel obvious, not complicated, and we focus relentlessly on keeping things simple while earning trust from restaurants and guests at every interaction. Today, sunday powers payments in thousands of restaurants across the US, UK, and France, helping operators turn tables faster, increase tips, and unlock valuable insights. We push ourselves to go beyond what's expected, building with ownership, moving fast, and scaling with ambition as we tackle our biggest growth opportunity in the US.

About The Role

sunday is at an inflection point in the US. We have 70+ employees across 7 states, a fast-growing team, and a real opportunity to build something that most companies never get right: a People function that actually moves the business forward.

As our first US People Partner, you won't be inheriting a polished playbook. You'll be writing it. This role is for someone who sees the blank page as an advantage, who instinctively asks "how do we automate this?" before asking "who should own this?", and who can be a trusted thought partner to managers and employees while also building the infrastructure that makes the whole operation run.

You'll handle the fundamentals (payroll, compliance, benefits) with precision and efficiency, then redirect that saved time toward the work that actually moves the needle: partnering with leaders, shaping culture, and building a People function that can scale with us.

If you thrive without a roadmap, move fast in ambiguity, and want to leave a real fingerprint on how a high-growth company operates, this is your seat.

What You'll Do

Build People Ops for Sunday US

  • Design and automate US People Operations from the ground up, identifying where AI and smart tooling can replace manual work before it becomes technical debt
  • Own HRIS configuration and optimization (HiBob or equivalent), building workflows, dashboards, and reporting that give leaders real-time visibility into their teams
  • Establish scalable, documented processes for onboarding, offboarding, compliance, and the full employee lifecycle

Be a True Partner to the Business

  • Serve as the go-to advisor for US managers on performance, employee relations, compensation, and org design
  • Translate ambiguous situations into clear recommendations, moving forward without waiting for perfect information
  • Support performance cycles, engagement initiatives, and culture-building efforts that make sunday a place people want to stay and grow

Own the Operational Foundation

  • Run end-to-end US payroll across 7+ states with zero errors, managing deductions, tax filings, and reconciliations
  • Administer US benefits programs (medical, dental, vision, 401(k)) with a seamless employee experience
  • Ensure multi-state HR compliance, proactively identifying gaps and building practices aligned with federal and state law

Drive the Vendor and Partner Ecosystem

  • Manage relationships with benefits brokers, legal counsel, PEO providers, and compliance advisors
  • Evaluate and implement new tools and platforms as sunday's needs evolve

About You

  • 5+ years in an HR Business Partner, People Operations, or HR Generalist role at a fast-growing startup or scaleup, ideally with multi-state or international exposure
  • You've run US payroll end-to-end and know what "zero errors" actually requires
  • Deep working knowledge of US employment law and multi-state compliance
  • You default to automation and AI before adding headcount or manual process
  • Analytical and precise: you track metrics, surface discrepancies early, and build reporting others actually use
  • Comfortable operating without a playbook: you make sound decisions in ambiguity and move forward without waiting for permission
  • Strong communicator who can translate complex HR and legal topics into clear guidance for non-HR audiences
  • You think like a founder about the function you own

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary: $100,000 – $125,000 base + stock options
  • Comprehensive health coverage (medical, dental, vision) for you and your dependents
  • 401(k) plan
  • Flexible, unlimited PTO policy
  • Hybrid work setup: 3 days/week in office in Atlanta, Chicago, or NYC
  • Real autonomy and broad scope from day one
  • The opportunity to build the US People function from scratch at a company that's growing fast and moving faster

Recruitment Process

  • Share your story: Application with resume
  • Let's get to know each other through a phone screen interview
  • Meet with the hiring manager
  • Impress your future colleagues with a live case study
  • Meet the broader team and get a feel for our culture
  • Offer: we want you
  • Reference checks (3 most recent managers)

Thank you for taking the time to apply. We look forward to getting to know you!
