NVIT invites applications from qualified individuals for the position of Success Centre Navigator, based at the Merritt campus. This will be a one-year term position with the possibility of extension. The successful candidate will begin as soon as a suitable candidate is available.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Manager of the Success Centre, the Success Centre Navigator is a student-facing member of the Enrolment Services team who supports learner engagement, success, and retention across the learner cycle, from pre-entry to program completion and transition. The role provides proactive, student-centred, trauma-informed, and culturally relevant services that reflect NVIT’s commitment to Indigenous-centred education and holistic learner support.

Working both independently and collaboratively with Success Centre staff, Elders, the Learning Commons team, and other service areas, the Success Centre Navigator builds respectful relationships with students and partners to support academic success, well-being, and access to services. Normal hours of work are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday, with occasional evening and weekend work required during peak periods.

Role-Specific Responsibilities

In addition to the core responsibilities expected of all Success Centre employees, this position includes the following role-specific focus areas.

  • Accommodation and Accessibility Navigation: Support learners in exploring accommodation and accessibility options by providing information, guidance, and connections to appropriate services and resources.
  • Strategic Planning: Contribute feedback, observations, and learner perspectives to support ongoing development and improvement of student support services and Success Centre initiatives.
  • Student Navigation and Resource Connection: Serve as a point of contact for students seeking information and support, helping them explore available options and connect with appropriate resources, departments, and personnel.
  • In-Community Support: Foster collaborative working relationships with the In-Community Department to help ensure access to shared Success Centre resources and supports across community-based programs.
  • External Partnerships and Agency Coordination: Build and maintain respectful relationships with external partners and agencies, and collaborate with Success Centre staff to coordinate shared space, resources, and related supports that meet learner and program needs.
  • Success Centre and Wellness Room Upkeep: Maintain the Success Centre and Wellness Room to ensure they remain clean, organized, functional, and well stocked with groceries and other supplies as needed.
  • Job Board Maintenance: Research employment opportunities for the student job board and ensure the board remains current, accessible, tidy, and well organized.
  • Workshop Coordination and Delivery: Collaborate with Success Centre Planners to schedule, plan, and deliver workshops that support learner engagement and skill development.

This position requires proficiency with NVIT’s technology systems, including Microsoft Office, Teams, Moodle, web-based resources, and SharePoint. There is also an expectation to learn institutional systems such as Colleague and other Success Centre-related management systems.

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, with 1 year of relevant experience supporting individuals with diverse abilities; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Demonstrated experience in workshop coordination, public speaking, and group facilitation.
  • Demonstrated commitment to culturally safe, trauma-informed, and student-centred practice.
  • Knowledge of and appreciation for Indigenous languages and cultures; Indigenous lived experience is considered an asset.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility.
  • Strong understanding of the learner cycle and its connection to student support and Enrolment Services.
  • Experience facilitating inclusive learning and training for diverse learner groups; Universal Design for Learning
  • Excellent critical thinking, time management, problem-solving, organizational, interpersonal, and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of federal and provincial legislation, policies, and practices related to accessibility, accommodation, and privacy, including the BC Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel.
  • Strong attention to detail, with the ability to analyze, process, and communicate information effectively through a variety of formats.
  • Proven ability to build collaborative working relationships that support positive outcomes for students and NVIT.
