We are hiring an experienced Mechanical Designer to join our growing team! Successful candidates will have long-term experience and demonstrated knowledge of machine design and industrial automation. They will also demonstrate initiative, critical thinking, a team-oriented attitude, strong attention to detail, and effective organizational skills within a fast-paced environment. This is a full-time, permanent opportunity.

Shift Schedule: Monday to Friday, Day shift with an 8:00am start time


Hourly Rate: $40-$55/hour depending on experience


Overview:



  • Report to Engineering Manager

  • Generate concept representation, proof of principle, preliminary or final design CAD models

  • Revise and update existing drawings reflecting design changes as needed

  • Design and perform proof of principle

  • Create and generate the manufacturing package and associated BOM

  • Maintain detailed notes, design calculations, and other documentation (including drawings, bill of materials, list of design parameters and performance guarantees)

  • Effectively communicate, coordinate, and troubleshoot with all necessary departments, including Service, Manufacturing, Assembly, Electrical Controls, and Project Management 

  • Provide customer support as needed

  • Review and adapt to information regarding product innovations, competitors, and market conditions

  • Coach, train, and assist other staff as needed

  • Follow design standards and best practices

  • Adhere to Health & Safety guidelines, as well as VTR’s Mission, Vision, and Values

  • Other duties as required


What You'll Bring: 



  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience as a Mechanical Designer

  • Experience and knowledge in machine design and industrial automation as an asset

  • Advanced knowledge of SolidWorks required

  • Post-secondary education in Mechanical Engineering, Design, and Drafting in CAD systems or related program

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, including Excel, Outlook, Word, & Teams

  • Strong attention to detail, communication, and time management skills

  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills

  • Demonstrates adaptability and the ability to work under tight deadlines

  • Demonstrates innovative thinking and proactive/reactive problem-solving skills

  • Commitment to quality and safety 


Work Conditions:



  • Temperature-controlled environment



  • PPE required; CSA-approved safety shoes and safety glasses

  • Manufacturing and office environment; prolonged or frequent standing or sitting at computer/desk


Additional Information:



  • Overtime after 40 hours

  • Minimum 40 hours per week

  • Annual Bonus

  • Paid Shutdown between Christmas and New Years

  • Lunchroom with provided food and drinks

  • Paid education and training

  • Own vehicle or reliable transportation required; not transit accessible
