We are looking for an experienced accounting leader to guide core financial operations and strengthen the accuracy, timeliness, and integrity of reporting for our organization in San Francisco, California. This role oversees critical accounting activities, supports audit readiness, and helps build effective close processes and internal controls. Responsibilities:
- Oversee and guide department leaders, providing coaching to support growth and performance
- Lead monthly manager meetings, set priorities, and align leadership goals
- Partner with leadership to plan programs, define goals, and track results
- Improve and manage reporting tools, including program and fundraising data in Salesforce
- Promote a positive, team-focused culture through staff events, wellness initiatives, and retreats
- Help develop and enforce internal policies with executive and finance leadership
- Ensure staff follow established procedures and complete required trainings (e.g., mandated reporting)
- Support employee engagement through affinity groups and cross-team collaboration
- Assist with grant writing, reporting, and fundraising efforts
- Represent the organization with partners, stakeholders, and funders
- Act as key contact for school district partnerships and agreements
- Serve as a liaison between leadership and the board of directors
- Coordinate board-related activities including scheduling, agendas, and communications
- Ensure clear communication of programs and initiatives to board members
- Advanced degree or similar hands-on leadership experience in nonprofit operations
- Strong background managing programs in fast-paced, evolving environments
- Proven ability to lead multiple teams and oversee complex initiatives
- Experienced in coaching, mentoring, and developing staff
- Comfortable handling sensitive challenges and making tough decisions under pressure
- Collaborative, approachable, and open to both learning and teaching
- Self-starter who works well independently and as part of a team
- Adaptable multi-tasker who can navigate ambiguity and drive clear outcomes
- Strong communication skills with the ability to present data in a simple, clear way
- Builds trust easily with teams, leadership, and external partners
