We are seeking a National Director of Field Medical who is responsible for building, leading, and evolving Immunic’s Multiple Sclerosis field medical organization, including current and future expansion of the field medical team of Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs) and Regional Medical Science Leads (RMSLs).
You are accountable for national field medical strategy and execution, ensuring that scientific engagement, insight generation, and evidence‑supporting activities are tightly aligned with Medical Affairs objectives and the evolving MS landscape. You will also shape the vision, culture, and operating model for the MS Field Medical team, serving as a key strategic partner to Medical Affairs leadership and a senior interface with the external MS clinical community.
- Define and lead the national field medical strategy for multiple sclerosis, aligned with Immunic’s Medical Affairs and therapeutic area objectives.
- Translate Medical Affairs strategy into clear field medical priorities, engagement plans, and metrics across territories and regions.
- Build, lead, and develop a high-performing team of MSLs and RMSLs, including recruitment, onboarding, coaching, performance management, and succession planning.
- Establish operating standards, best practices, and field tools for scientific exchange, insight capture, and compliant collaboration with cross-functional partners.
- Collaborate closely with the VP, Medical Affairs and Medical Directors on scientific positioning, data communication priorities, and launch readiness planning in MS.
- Evolve field medical strategy, team structure, and ways of working as Immunic grows, ensuring the organization remains nimble and responsive to new data, portfolio priorities, and market dynamics.
- Provide strategic direction for national KOL and center‑of‑excellence engagement, including prioritization of leading MS clinicians, investigators, institutions, and professional societies.
- Ensure that the Field Medical team engages neurologists, neuroimmunologists, and other healthcare professionals in advanced, fair, and balanced scientific dialogue related to multiple sclerosis, neuroimmunology, and emerging therapeutic approaches.
- Personally engage with select national thought leaders, academic centers, and professional organizations as a senior Medical Affairs representative.
- Represent Immunic Medical Affairs at key national and international scientific congresses and advisory forums, in partnership with Medical Affairs and Clinical Development colleagues.
- Design and oversee a structured approach for systematic insight generation from the field, including processes, tools, and expectations for the MSL and RMSL team.
- Partner with Medical Directors and others to translate field insights into actionable recommendations that inform medical strategy, development planning, and scientific communication.
- Collaborate with Clinical Development and Evidence Generation to support identification of potential clinical trial sites and investigators, and to enable appropriate field support for investigator‑initiated research and real‑world evidence initiatives, in alignment with company procedures.
- Serve as the primary Field Medical leader within Medical Affairs, partnering closely with Medical Directors and other Medical Affairs colleagues to ensure alignment on strategy and execution.
- Collaborate with Commercial, Market Access, and other cross-functional partners in a compliant manner, ensuring that field medical insights and scientific perspectives appropriately inform broader planning.
- Provide strategic input into congress planning, advisory boards, and medical education initiatives, including identification of external experts and alignment of field objectives.
- Ensure all field medical activities are conducted in accordance with applicable regulatory, legal, and company policies governing scientific exchange and interactions with healthcare professionals.
- Synthesize national field‑based perspectives to inform access, evidence, and launch planning.
- Advanced scientific or clinical degree (MD, PharmD, PhD, NP/PA with strong research background) required; specialization or significant experience in neurology, neuroimmunology, or multiple sclerosis strongly preferred.
- 10+ years of relevant Medical Affairs, clinical, or scientific experience, including substantial field medical experience and prior leadership of MSL or Medical Affairs teams.
- Demonstrated expertise in multiple sclerosis disease biology, therapeutic landscape, and evolving standards of care.
- Experience in a startup, nonprofit, or newly established program environment
- Proven ability to build, lead, and develop high-performing scientific teams, ideally in a growth-stage, startup, or newly established program environment.
- Experience engaging with MS thought leaders, academic centers, and clinical investigators, with an established network within the MS and/or neuroimmunology community preferred.
- Familiarity with clinical trial design, evidence generation approaches, and scientific communication in the context of MS or related neurological diseases.
- Strong strategic, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across functions and levels.
