Automation Engineer, Toronto, ON
Responsibilities and Duties:
The candidate will play a key role in project management by ensuring planning, cost and schedule control, as well as the design, programming, and commissioning of automated systems
- Define customer needs
- Design automated systems and select equipment (controls, instrumentation, motor controls, control panel design, etc.)
- Programming PLCs and user interfaces
- Participate in system testing and commissioning
- Manage factory automation projects: planning, supervision, change control, and reporting on budget, schedule, and resources, manufacturers, and contractors
- Prepare specifications, plans, and estimates
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary project team
- Follow up with equipment suppliers
- Bachelor's degree in automated production engineering (APE), electrical engineering, or equivalent.
- Member of Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO)
- 3-5 years’ experience in the field of industrial automation
- Knowledge of Allen Bradley, Rockwell, and Siemens products
- Experience in the food and/or pharmaceutical industry (an asset)
- Occasional visits to clients in the Greater Toronto Area
- Strong leadership, relationship management, organizational planning and project management skills, in addition to technical knowledge
- Entrepreneurial mindset and desire for business development.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment in methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results
- Ability to influence clients, suppliers and peers into adopting "best practices" in the engineering field
- Excellent communication skills - verbal, written, listening and interpersonal with the ability to transfer knowledge to others
- Capability to engage and energize others to reach their fullest potential and performance
- Have flexibility to travel to external manufacturing sites as needed
